Here is a subject we love!

We use mostly disc jockey compilations and are licensed with the Audio Video Licensing Agency which is basically owned or governed by the big record companies.  With all the downloading of music at home or at work, the record companies are telling everyone the format of MP3 or compressed music to share on the net is putting them out of business.  So for 2003, you will see lots of things happening with the AVLA and the federal government going after people at home and especially disc jockeys.

Do we agree with the AVLA as a whole.  Yes.

In another life, I managed a few music stores when growing up.  The AVLA was around then but it was powerless.  Now, that I have brought this business into the market as a leader and innovator...we must watch ourselves in the way that we conduct business.  The AVLA and the record companies have managed to convince the government that they are loosing money too off of the taxes paid on purchasing music legitimately and in Canada.  It is hurting Canadian Music culture.

Do we use downloaded music.  No.

Why not you ask?  Picture this, its your wedding day and the AVLA shows up to do a spot check on your disc jockey you hired.  He is using downloaded music.  The AVLA will now inform him or her at your function that what they are doing is illegal and they will probably be investigated.  Lets put you in the djs shoes for a moment...you are driving down the highway in a 100km/h posted area and you are doing 150!  In your mirror you see the flashing lights of the police.  They pull you over.  Are you in trouble.  Yes, of course you are.  You just got nailed doing 50 over!  Now, on the spot you will recieve a ticket.  But as us Canadians know, its not the ticket that hurts...its what will happen later with our insurance!  On your way to your destination, what kind of mood will you be in after you are pulled over?  Are your nerves shot?  Is your mind really on driving?   Remember your dj?  Do you really think his or her mind will be on your wedding?  Probably not!

This is not a preach or lesson on why not to steal music...but you hopefully can see the importance of using a professionally licensed disc jockey service.

If the disc jockey you are considering to use cannot prove or is not willing to prove they do not use downloaded music...keep looking.

Besides, the quality of downloaded music is not as good as the recordings a AVLA licensed disc jockey will use.
