Many questions arise when dealing with a disc jockey or you are investigating the option of using one.  These are some questions you may want ask a dj or things to consider when hiring entertainment.  This area is one of the busiest parts of our website.  Knowing what your getting upfront is very important when hiring a disc jockey.

How much do you cost?
Our service rates vary on the amount of time required and the city of the event.
Why do you offer wedding "packages"?
Wedding packages are an easy way to know exactly what you need.  Other services offer misleading pricing - ours is very straight forward with no hidden surprises.
Do you require a deposit?
In some cases.  Weddings require a minimum $200.00 deposit - other custom functions may require a deposit also.
Are there any surprise charges?
None.  We are very upfront about our services and the fees we charge.  Everything we offer is in writing.
How flexible are you?
Very flexible - if your using our services for a wedding for example, your day should be your way.  We offer our experience and suggestions.
What if I want a specific dj?
Typically our disc jockeys book 8-10 months in advance.  If we can arrange for you to have the disc jockey you request, it will be arranged.
My wedding is in the USA - Can you dj?
Yes we can.  We have many clients that have been up to Canada for functions and are very impressed with the professionalism of our team.  There are details but we will discuss them with you.
My wedding is in another province - Can you dj?
Of course!  Our disc jockeys enjoy going to places they have never been before.  For them it opens up new experiences and opportunities to meet new people.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes we do.  If a wedding reception is cancelled 6 months in advance we will return your deposit in full.  If it cancelled after 6 months and before 30 days, we will give you a credit to be used against another function.  After 30 days prior, 50% of the balance is due.
Do you offer lighting and dry ice?
Yes we do.  Our other company, thunderdj.com is a high school, college, university and night club service.  We have many lighting effects.  We also do staging and special effects for fashion shows and corporate events.  We don't always recommend lighting for wedding at certain venues, but if you have a video being done - dry ice is a very nice touch.
Why do I get a discount on my invitations?
We have an invitation company we deal with weekly.  We have the catalogue and its just another thing we offer you savings on.
Are you a reputable company?
We believe we are.  Being insured, licensed and a member of the Canadian disc jockey association doesn't guarantee reputation but our years of service, countless client referrals and vendors who personally refer our services says great things.
Can we visit you at an event?
For a wedding.  No.  A business event, stag n doe or party - we can arrange with clients in advance.
Will you be talking on the microphone all night?
No.  We market ourselves as an interactive but unobtrusive service.  We talk when we should, interact just enough to let people know their is a disc jockey
Can you meet with us to explain details?
Absolutely!  Consultations are included with weddings.  We make sure you understand everything about what will and should happen at your event.  If you don't understand, we keep working with you.
Do your DJ's know how to read the crowd?
Our disc jockeys are among the most experienced individuals in Ontario.  They already know how to play music, they know the music, they know how to conduct and event...reading the crowd is the hardest part and our team is the best!
What type of style is your DJ service?
We are not a show stealer when it is not appropriate!  Some disc jockeys put themselves as the star of the show, when in most cases it is the bride and groom.  We are professionals.
How much experience do the disc jockeys have?
Some of our disc jockeys have over a decade of experience each.  When we hire a new disc jockey, they go through an extensive 1 year training program and have more experience at the end of one year than disc jockeys that have been working for years.
Are you a "full time" DJ service?
Yes we are.  Our office runs from 8am to 10pm 6 days a week.  We spend countless hours planning and organizing.
Do you belong to any professional organizations?
Yes we do.  We are members of the Canadian Disc Jockey Association and Canadian Online Disc Jockey Association.  We are also members of local business chambers of commerce.
Do you have insurance?
Yes we are insured.
What time to you arrive to setup?
Our disc jockeys usually setup 30 to 45 minutes prior to the start time as stated in your agreement with us.
Can we use your sound system for speeches?
Yes, as long as our services have been contracted to be there when your speeches take place, it is included in the packages.
When is the balance due?
For weddings, the balance is due 20 days prior to your reception date.  For other events, it is usually invoiced or balance due the evening of the event.
Is your sound system loud enough?
All our basic sound systems accommodate up to 400 guests.  Since we know the requirements for many of the reception ctrs in the area we will advise you of any added requirements.
Could you be the MC if I need you to be?
Yes we can.  There is no charge for this service and certain requirements are a must.
How many songs are in your music library?
Usually we carry just over 9000 songs to each event.  Our online database will show just over 9000 but our office library consists of over 30,000 song titles.
Is the music you used bought or downloaded?
Downloaded music is illegal.  We do not take risks with our business or your event.  All our music is leased or purchased.
Do you take music requests?
Yes.  You have control of the style and number and even types of music requests we play.
If I have a do not play list, will you abide by it?
Yes.  These lists are very important and we do our best to not play these songs.
What does a disc jockey wear?
Our disc jockeys do not dress inappropriately.  They dress to fit in and dress fashionably.
You haven't played at my hall, will there be problems?
No.  Our service has a policy called " your house - your rules".  We do what the hall wants in conjunction with our clients requests.
Can I supply a CD if you don't have it?
Yes you may.  Our company policy forbids any of our disc jockeys from playing a cd given to them by a guest.  If you are supplying cds, they must be supplied in advance or give to the coordinator at your reception hall.
Do you match prices from your competitors?
We do our best.  Some of our competitors may lower their prices to fill in dates and others may not offer the same level of service we do.
How long have you been in business?
The original business started in 1982 in Hamilton with Bil on his own and working for a company called B&K.  In the mid 90's the company began expanding.
What makes your DJ service different from others?
We have worked very hard to distinguish ourselves as a very professional and personable service.  We do not offer "cookie cutter wedding services!"  We are an all request music service that works with our clients to create a memorable unique event.
Do you have international music?
Yes we have many different traditional multicultural selections.  You are also invited to supply some music also.
Do I get a discount on other services?
If a wedding is booked with us, your stag n doe will be discounted.  Every wedding client is entered as a repeat client to begin with, so anytime you use our services for family functions you will be offered a discount.  For businesses, multiple event bookings will result in discounted rates.
My friend is getting married too - discount?
Yes we will offer referral discounts or honor close to the same pricing or the same as what you have also.  If you both book at the same time, both weddings for example will receive a discount.
Do we get to meet our DJ?
In some cases yes.  Bil does all the pre planning.  If it is possible we will have you visit them at a stag n doe or party.
Do you have backup DJs and equipment?
Yes we do.  You may see that we have a number of disc jockeys on our team.  We do not book all of them out on each night  We have backup systems in different cities to accommodate the geographic area we service.
My hall refers a DJ, can I still use you?
In most cases yes.  You must be comfortable working with a disc jockey as they are the ones that are going to make or break your day.  If the hall does not allow you to meet the service provider, don't shop for value, its not worth the risk.
Is your music up to date?
Yes.  We actually work with the music service that provides disc jockeys with their licensed music across Canada.
Do you use computers to play music?
Not yet.  By summer of 2004 we may be using one system.  It will not be downloaded music and the hard drive of the computer will be licensed by the AVLA.
